Arthur Lawson was killed in a 1945 motor accident , leaving a wife and four children. On the afternoon of December 25, Lawson first shot his daughters, Carrie and Maybell, as they were setting out to their uncle and aunt's house. He waited for them by the tobacco barn until they were in range, shot them with a 12-gauge shotgun, then ensured that they were dead by bludgeoning them. Shortly after the murders, the cabin was turned into a tourist attraction, with folks driving from miles around just to catch a glimpse of the home where the horror took place.
Charlie moved his family to the Germantown area in 1918 and began sharecropping tobacco. By 1927, the Lawsons had saved enough money to buy a farm on Brook Cove Road. After the bloody massacre Charles hid in the nearby woods. People began to gather at the Lawson residence after hearing about the tragedy. A few hours after he killed his family the gathered people heard one last gunshot. We are sad to announce that on December 13, 2022 we had to say goodbye to Logan Lawson of Colerain Township, Ohio.

Lastly, and the saddest part of all this bloodshed is when Mr. Lawson killed four month old Mary Lou. In 1911, Charles Lawson married Fannie Manring, with whom he had eight children. The third, William, born in 1914, died of an illness in 1920.
The day before the book was to be published, the author received a phone call from Stella Lawson, a relative who had already been interviewed for the book. Jettie died in early 1928, meaning Fannie had been suspicious of the incest at least that long before the murders in late 1929. The bodies of the family members were found with their arms crossed and rocks under their heads. The gunshot signaling Lawson's own suicide was heard by the many people who already had learned of the murders on the property and gathered there. A police officer who was with Arthur ran down to discover Lawson's body along with letters to his parents. As footprints encircled the tree, it was supposed that he had been pacing around the tree prior to taking his life.

Among other strange happenings at the gravesite, it’s reported that nothing, not even leaves in the fall, can ever be placed on the grave. He then went to the house and killed the remaining members of his family, including four-month-old Mary Lou. He positioned the bodies by putting rocks under their heads and crossing their arms. I was shocked to see this during research on my own birth.

It was when the construction of the bridge was complete that the stories of supernatural happenings began to spring up. Yes family secrets are passed down but it doesn’t have to stay that way. In this case I don’t believe the Father should share the same headstone. There was a similar case in NZ in 1982 where Anne Lawson Married her Second Husband Gary Eyton. He became the stepfather of her 5 children being quins there was a rumour he interfered with one of the daughters, he shot Anne then himself in the back. I’ve only been doing my research one week during this time the Murders in North Carolina just popped up. Afterwards, Lawson returned to the house and shot Fannie, who was on the porch.
But what about the ghostly lights that chase people down the roads through the county? It could be explained away by scientific abnormalities. The tragedy occurred on their farm, just days after Charlie had taken the whole family into town, bought them new clothes and had them sit for a studio portrait. The eerie photograph, an unusual expense for a poor family of that era, indicates that Charlie likely considered the crime for some time before carrying it out. Then he returned to the family cabin where his wife Fannie was sitting on the porch and shot her.
